a sequel to this cult mobile game 11 years after the original!

In 2011, there were certain games that everyone had on their smartphones. Temple Run, Cut the Rope or angry Birds, these are so many titles that have forged the mobile games market as we know it today. Among the cult titles of that time, there is one that still hadn’t had a sequel in eleven years of existence… But that’s now ancient history. In effect, the excellent Jetpack Joyride is about to receive a new episode for Apple’s gaming subscription.

simply titled Jetpack Joyride 2, this suite will be added to the Apple Arcade catalog very soon. This is next august 19 that subscribers to the service will be able to put on their propellant backpack for a frenetic obstacle course. With its first images, the title seems to be strongly inspired by the original episode, but Apple and the Halfbrick studio promise some nice surprises for this long-awaited sequel!

A shooter like the others

As a reminder, the gameplay of Jetpack Joyride boils down to shooting enemies, collecting coins and surviving the longest as our character rushes faster and faster. In short, it’s a rather simplistic way to play and a classic model of mobile games. But, the title announcement reveals that this time, the game will not be content to be an infinite side-scroller and will offer a narrative dimension. New mechanics that have not yet been unveiled should bring this unique experience according to Apple’s press release.

This sequel is not its first mobile release since a limited test period took place in March 2021 on iOS and Android. Withdrawn from application stores last February, the teams then announced a “back in development for an indefinite period” which is just coming to an end. Finally, the title will be an Apple exclusive and Android smartphone users will have to settle for the first episode (or the APK of the test version). The Apple Arcade offers a selection of exclusive titles for €4.99 per month. The Cupertino company’s gaming subscription service continues to grow despite the recent sudden loss of 15 titles from the catalog.

While waiting for the arrival of this game, know that it is possible to practice on the original opus also available in the Apple Arcade under the title of Jetpack Joyride Plus. In addition to Jetpack Joyride 2subscribers will be able to enjoy a month full of new titles in August with the addition of Amazing Bomberman and exclusive versions of My Talking Tom and Love You to Bits. It remains to be seen if other games will in turn leave the service after these major additions.
