Vernon Sanders gives juicy details about Amazon’s adaptation of God of War for Prime Video.

After coming close to winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards, god of war has no respite on the side of the small screen with the recent confirmation of the arrival of an eponymous series. Commissioned by PlayStation, Amazon will take care of the adaptation for 2023. If today we know almost nothing about this project, Vernon Sanders, co-president of Amazon’s TV subsidiary, gives us some interesting details.

In an interview with DiscussingFilms, the businessman seems particularly excited at the idea of bringing the PlayStation franchise to the small screen. He explains :

We’re doing incredibly well with the adaptations, from Invincible to The Boys. We know there is a passionate fan base for God of War. But what we’re always looking for is whether there’s a real emotional core, whether there’s a real narrative story, and I think that’s part of what makes God of War so special.

At the center of everything, there is this story of fathers and sons, of families, in this gigantic epic landscape. Rafe Judkins [directeur de la série]Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby [scénaristes] have dreamed up something for the first season and for the series that is both incredibly faithful to the source material and fascinating in its own right.

A series for fans but not only

For the moment, we simply know that the series god of war will be based on the fourth game of the franchise at least, we should therefore find Kratos and Atreus in the middle of the Nordic kingdom, the ancient Greek god of war being in search of redemption. Amazon is therefore counting on the strong narration of the games to impress us, even though it is one of the great positive points of the latest titles of the license. Vernon Sanders even dares to add:

If you’ve never played the game, you’ll fall in love with the series and feel welcomed. So we think it’s going to be huge.

The firm therefore hopes to bet on the same phenomenon that made the animated series famous. Arcaneinspired by League of Legends and produced by Netflix. The production had gathered millions of fans around the world, but not only players of the MOBA developed by Riot Games. It remains to be seen whether Amazon will be up to the challenge.
