We take stock of all Sony’s announcements during its last State of Play devoted to Japanese games.
This March 9, Sony held the broadcast of a State of Play, only a month after showing the gameplay of Gran Turismo 7. This time, the firm focused on productions from Japanese studios, announcing new many fighting and action-adventure games, in addition to a few RPGs. After Street Fighter 6, Capcom unveils a brand new franchise called Exoprimal. In this game, players team up with four other people, equipped with special exoskeletons, to fight an army of dinosaurs. Unleashed in the heart of an apocalyptic city, they destroy everything in their path and your goal is to stop them, and close the vortices from which they came. To discover this title, Sony gives us an appointment on PS4 and PS5, not in 2043, but in 2023.
A few days before its release, on March 25, Ghostwire: Tokyo is revealed in a new trailer, which will surely not be the last. As a reminder, this will be a temporary PS5 exclusive in which you play as Akito, a survivor who must save the city of Tokyo, suddenly emptied of its inhabitants but filled with specters and other supernatural presences.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Also expected soon, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin offers us a final trailer aimed at showing us the availability of an open demo on PS4 and PS5. For its official release, see you on March 18.
While it was postponed only a few days ago, Forspoken also gives news in a new trailer introducing us to the story of the game, and of Frey, the main protagonist. Square Enix’s action-adventure title will be available on October 11.
Online game inspired by the anime of the same name, Gundam Evolution is a FPS in which you fight 6 against 6 with your Mobile Suits. A game that amateur shooters will be happy to discover on PS4 and PS5 by the end of 2022.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection
Retro game fans, Sony has not forgotten you. The firm presented one of the most complete collections of retro games to date, with a compilation of 13 games from arcades or released on old consoles centered on the Ninja Turtles pizza eaters. Coming soon to PS4 and PS5.
GigaBash it’s a completely delirious game in which you embody dragons and gigantic characters, who look more like aliens, and who destroy everything in their path. In the trailer, the firm unveils one of its latest dragons, Rawa. It will be available on PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R
And since anime adaptations are on the rise at Sony, the firm presents us JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R. If the manga celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, players can also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime with this breathtaking fighting game. It will be released in the fall of 2022 with no specific date yet.
Trek to Yomi
On the borderline between film production and fighting game, Trek to Yomi transports you to a Japan of the previous century, with an original visual identity and a deep history. Its black and white atmosphere should appeal to fans of the genre. The game will be released on PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
This is obviously not a new game but an update. Returnal will be entitled to a version 3.0 which not only adds a co-op mode, but also an extension DLC which brings the tower of Sisyphus as a new explorable environment. See you on March 22 to discover this free update.
The DioField Chronicle
In the RPG category, Square Enix presents the game The DioField Chronicle, a tactical RPG that bases its gameplay on troop battles. To be found on consoles in 2022.
Finally, Sony finishes on the game Valkyrie Elysium, also developed by Square Enix. This is an action RPG game where you play as a lone valkyrie trying to end the looming Ragnarök. A mission as epic as it is perilous. No release date yet but a window for 2022.
