Chicago-Detroit to Paris!

The NBA announced on Tuesday that the regular season game between the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons will take place at the Accor Arena in Paris on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

There was Charlotte – Milwaukee in January 2020, there will be Chicago – Detroit in January 2023! After two years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA will return to France! The poster for this second match taking place at the Accor Arena in Paris was unveiled on Tuesday, and it will therefore be an Eastern Conference match (as almost always for matches in Europe, due to the time lag schedule), between the Bulls and the Pistons, respectively sixth and fourteenth of this regular season. The two franchises, located not far from each other, have been rivals since the 1980s and 1990s and their clashes are always great moments. If the teams do not change by January (which is far from certain), Chicago will start as the favorite for this meeting in front of the Parisian fans. By recruiting DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball last summer, who joined Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine, the Bulls had a very good season, staying in the lead for a long time before tumbling in the early spring to finish sixth and be eliminated 4-1 by Milwaukee in the first round of the play-offs. As for the Pistons, they have never been able to dream of the play-in, despite the presence of the No. 1 of the 2021 draft Cade Cunningham, who delivered a great rookie season. Jerami Grant and Saddiq Bey are the other players to follow in the Michigan franchise, without forgetting Killian Hayes, the highest drafted Frenchman in history (7th in 2020), who could thus have the opportunity to play in front of his audience. Detroit will have the fifth pick of the next draft and can therefore hope for a better season in 2022-23, but it is still very early to make predictions.

“Amplify the global impact of basketball”

“It is a great honor to bring Chicago Bulls basketball back to Paris for the 2023 NBA Paris Game – an event that exemplifies the league’s commitment to amplifying basketball’s national and global impact. Having played several games in Paris during my career, I know how special this event will be for our players, our organization and our international fanbase. We look forward to representing Chicago overseas and are grateful for the opportunity to do so,” said Bulls vice-president Artūras Karnišovas. “The Detroit Pistons organization is thrilled to face the Chicago Bulls and play our very first game in France. Playing a regular season game in Paris will be a great experience for our players and coaches and we look forward to bringing Detroit basketball to an international audience,” said Pistons general manager Troy Weaver. Before Paris, it was the city of London that hosted regular season NBA games in Europe from 2011 to 2019.
