FromSoftware’s game continues to make industry history and rise ever higher in the hearts of gamers.

You thought Elden Ring got all the accolades? Well think again! FromSoftware’s title continues to go to infinity and beyond (something to make Buzz Lightyear jealous). On December 8, this game already won a big prize: that of the game of the year., awarded by Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards. If it is this nomination that probably matters most in the industry, many other organizations and media use their own rankings to honor the titles that have marked the year.

So, some lucky people manage to win the same title several times. In 2020, The Last of Us Part II had set a record by winning the game of the year medal no less than 322 times! An exemplary performance never surpassed… Until now. The open-world signed Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin shook up the industry this year and won unanimous support. It’s with 324 awards that the game removes the crown from the hands of Naughty Dog.

The media conquered, the players a little less

More detailed statistics show thatElden Ring was mostly popular with journalists. Indeed, 281 awards come from the media, while 43 come from player surveys. In comparison, the balance of The Last of Us Part II was much more balanced. 195 media had granted their favorite of the year against 108 surveys on the side of the players.

Do’Elden Ring would be a less public game? His gameplay may be the cause. When writing the Journal du Geek, the war reigned between FromSoftware’s game and God of War Ragnarok. The Game Awards therefore ended not without some disappointments. But more than these honorary distinctions, it is above all the pleasure that one takes in playing that counts. So which game do you think deserved Game of the Year?
