Installation: Balenciaga takes control of the SSENSE Montreal boutique

“The Hacker Project” is the collaboration between two historic luxury houses, Balenciaga and Gucci. This alliance has two components that were presented during the spring-summer 2022 fashion shows. The global launch of the second component has been taking place since November 15 at the SSENSE store in Montreal. There is therefore a selection of Balenciaga items that revisit the emblematic pieces of the Gucci house, designed by Demma Gvasalia, artistic director of Balenciaga.

Thus, handbags, clutch bags, socks and other accessories bear the double B monogram for Balenciaga, and not the famous double G from Gucci! The two fashion houses are exploring ideas for appropriating their codes within the fashion industry. “It is also a nod to the counterfeiting of luxury houses,” explains Brigitte Chartrand, vice-president of women’s purchasing at SSENSE.

The SSENSE boutique in Old Montreal has been transformed for the occasion into a Balenciaga boutique; the entrance hall as well as the windows were “hacked” by Balenciaga and large curtains with the classic Gucci print were installed. “It’s very exclusive, it’s an honor to host this project, because we are the only ones to present these products in Quebec. They are not available online, ”she explains. “It matches our vision for the SSENSE space in Montreal. We want to offer this experience to our community, people of all ages who love fashion, who are given access to exclusive products as well as new brands. ”

The installation is on display until December 12 at the SSENSE boutique at 418 rue Saint-Sulpice.

If, on the beach side, there is no shortage of swimsuits from Quebec brands, it is different on the pool side. Co-owner of the private swimming school Aquapro, Rachel Auclair took advantage of the time given to her by the pandemic to launch Poolside, a brand of swimsuits designed for swimmers. Its objective: to meet the need for comfort, quality and aesthetics which, according to her, was not present on the market. “The swimsuit has been part of my everyday uniform for a long time,” says the person who has worked in swimming for 10 years. It was difficult to find a nice and comfortable swimming suit. The offer did not change much and there was no offer of Quebec jerseys. ”

For its fall collection (the first official since the launch of its brand last year), it offers two very distinct models. The classic model, which will be offered on a permanent basis, features a high cut above the hip for better definition of the silhouette. The straps are wide and adjustable for more comfort. On the other hand, we find a “cyclist” style swimsuit, more covering.

After experimenting with recycled nylon in her first products, Rachel Auclair chose to turn to classic polyester, more resistant to chlorine. The jerseys are lined in the same fabric, unlike others which have a thin, less resistant lining. All stages of the product’s manufacturing are carried out in Montreal.

Holive is first and foremost a project that came to life in 2019 on Etsy. A hobby for its founder, Lydia Pomerleau, who sold sweaters with the effigy of birth flowers. The project quickly gained momentum. This fall, the company moved to a large local in the Quebec City region and turned to an entirely local production for its fall collection. The concept has evolved since then. Although personalized sweaters and pendants are still available, the most recent collection is more versatile. This one has six basic pieces, including an oversized wool shirt, a high neck long fleece sweater and linen pants.
