(Orlando) A central Florida television reporter and a little girl were fatally shot Wednesday afternoon near the scene of a fatal shooting that occurred earlier in the day, authorities say.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina told a press conference Wednesday night that they arrested 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses, who they believe was responsible for the two shootings in the Orlando neighborhood.

In addition to the Spectrum News 13 reporter and the 9-year-old girl, a member of the TV crew and the girl’s mother were injured in the second shooting. They are in critical condition at a local hospital.

“I want to highlight the horror of this day for our community and our media partners,” Mina told a room full of reporters. “I work closely with all of you, know many of you and appreciate the very difficult work you do, but also the very important work you do for our community and for law enforcement. No one in our community — not a mother, not a 9-year-old child, and certainly not media professionals — should be a victim of gun violence in our community. »

Mina said they don’t immediately have a motive for any of the shootings.

“The suspect is not saying much at this time,” Mr Mina said. “It is unclear whether he knew it was news media or not. We are still trying to clear all this up. »

Mina said the News 13 vehicle did not look like a typical news van with television station markings.

Deputies responded to the Pine Hills area, northwest of Orlando, on Wednesday morning following reports of a woman in her 20s who had been shot dead.
