Jean-Guy Desjardins back at the helm of Fiera

A senior management shakeup at Montreal-based asset manager Fiera Capital brings founder and executive chairman of the board Jean-Guy Desjardins back to the post of chief executive.

The 78-year-old financial entrepreneur takes over the guides of Fiera and succeeds Jean-Philippe Lemay who held the position of CEO for a year. Jean-Philippe Lemay joined Fiera Capital in 2012.

“The Board concluded that, as the asset management industry continues to face complex challenges related to the macroeconomic environment, Jean-Guy Desjardins has unique expertise to lead Fiera Capital during this period. »

Jean-Guy Desjardins founded Fiera Capital exactly 20 years ago, in 2003.

Other leadership changes are also announced on Monday.

John Valentini is appointed Executive Director, President and CEO of Fiera Private Markets.

Jean Michel is appointed Executive Director, President and Chief Investment Officer of Fiera Public Markets. Previously, Mr. Michel was Chief Investment Officer, Public Markets. He will now also lead the firm’s public markets platform, including the portfolio solutions team.

Peter Stock is appointed Executive Director and President of Fiera Private Wealth. He will continue to lead Fiera’s private banking business in North America.

Lucas Pontillo is appointed Executive Director and Global Chief Financial Officer. He will continue to lead Fiera’s finance function and will now also be responsible for global operations and technology functions and the company’s enterprise risk management program.

Gabriel Castiglio is appointed Executive Director and Chief Legal Officer Global. He will continue to lead the legal and compliance functions at Fiera and will now also be responsible for the global human resources function and Fiera’s environmental, social and governance and sustainable investing initiatives.

An executive management committee composed of Jean-Guy Desjardins and the above-mentioned members of senior management has also been formed.

After beginning his career as a financial analyst and portfolio manager for a life insurance company, Jean-Guy Desjardins co-founded TAL Global Asset Management in 1972 and was its main shareholder until the acquisition of the firm. by CIBC in 2001.

He subsequently founded Fiera Capital, which had assets under management of approximately $158 billion as of 1er last October.
