Remedy announces the return with great fanfare of Max Payne, in a remaster rather than in a new opus.
After Bully, which digs up a sequel, it’s Max Payne’s turn to return to the front of the stage after several years of absence… but this time not in a new opus. Indeed, Remedy announces the remaster of the first two opuses, namely Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which will be released for the first time as a collection.
Development on these remasters is already underway, and Remedy has a little surprise for its fans. They will both be co-developed by studio Rockstar Games, which is behind many successful franchises, and has been busy remastering GTA V recently. Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy, says:
“Max Payne has always held a special place in everyone’s hearts at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans around the world feel the same way. We are very excited to once again work with our partners at Rockstar Games for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games to life in new ways..”
The same fate for Max Payne 3?
Fans of the franchise are not unaware that Max Payne 3 was entirely developed by Rockstar Games, not Remedy. That’s why partnering with the studio for the remaster of the first two installments made so much sense. However, neither of them has yet clarified whether the same fate will be reserved for Max Payne 3which would seem consistent.
For the moment, no images or trailers have been shared, so we don’t know what stage of development the collection is at. We can nevertheless imagine that nothing is ready yet, so we will have to wait many months, even a few years, before we can play it on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Bread on the board at Remedy
This news is reminiscent of another iconic franchise that was remastered only a few months ago. This is’Alan Wake, the survival horror that surely marked part of your adolescence. Remedy also plans to develop a sequel to it, which is not yet expected for this year.
Finally, the studio also has some surprises in store for fans of the franchise. control. Indeed, a free and multiplayer shooter is being prepared behind the scenes. We have no more information on this one, Remedy using as always a lot of mystery on the development of its titles.
