Resumption of trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange

An outage affecting the Toronto Stock Exchange’s trading system prevented investors from making trades for more than an hour on Tuesday morning.

The Toronto Stock Exchange halted trading in all securities across all of its markets shortly after opening.

Technical glitches caused connection problems for investors on the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Venture Exchange and the Alpha Exchange, spokeswoman Catherine Kee said.

The market was in a pre-open state until 11:10 a.m. when trading activity resumed.

The benchmark S&P TSX Composite Index on the Toronto floor rose more than 100 points to 19,535.00 points when trading resumed.

TMX Group had experienced an outage in February 2020 due to a systems capacity issue attributed to high trading volume in the early days of the pandemic. Another outage in 2018 was caused by a hardware issue.
