PlayStation is about to make its big comeback in VR with its new headset that promises impressive exclusive experiences.
Sony had been able to do a first step into the world of virtual reality with its first headset for the PlayStation 4 six years ago already in 2016. Below some of the competitors’ models on many characteristics, this helmet had established itself as a good compromise. Allowing a smooth and rather affordable entry into this new dimension of play that is VR, this version quickly ran out of steam, all the more so with the arrival of the PS5.
The new console from Sony is much more powerful and deserves a model of VR headset capable of honoring its performance. This will soon be the case since the manufacturer plans to release its PSVR 2 in the more or less near future. Indeed, little information is still available about it, but Sony knows how to communicate about what matters.
Last January, we had the right to the first details about this future new accessory. We then learned that the helmet would offer 4K OLED resolution with 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye and that the controllers will offer the same features as the famous DualSense of the PS5 (namely adaptive triggers and haptic feedback). By the way, we also had the honor of discovering images of the first game developed exclusively for the PSVR 2 in the form ofa spin-off of the saga Horizon from Guerilla.
An impressive catalog
This time, Sony has just announced a surprising selection of games to mark the release of its future PSVR 2. During a meeting of the manufacturer with investors, the CEO of the company jim ryan said :
“At the moment, we have a significant amount of our budget allocated to partnerships with various independent developers and third-party studios to ensure a flow of engaging content when PSVR 2 comes out.”
Following this statement, it was confirmed that no less than 20 games from PlayStation studios or third-party studios will appear when the new Sony headphones start. If it manages to stand out with an exhaustive and varied catalog (unlike its predecessor), this console alternative to classic virtual reality could establish itself as a real competitor in this race for innovative and futuristic video games.
