Test bench | Kia EV6 competition

The electric market is developing at breakneck speed. The Ford Mustang Mach-e, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Tesla’s Model Y are on the same road as Kia’s EV6.

Ford Mustang Mach-e

Price: from $50,495

Equally stylish and functional, Ford’s Mach-e is just as exciting to drive as Kia’s EV6. On the other hand, the Mach-e is not eligible for the federal government subsidy (only that of Quebec applies) because of its higher price, and its warranty is less generous. Finally, unlike the EV6, the Mustang Mach-e refuses to tow the slightest load.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Technically, Kia’s EV6 and the Ioniq 5 have a lot in common. They share the same architecture, the same motors, the same battery, but the execution differs. The EV6 is sportier, more firmly suspended, while the Ioniq 5 is more spacious (headroom), more comfortable and suffers more from the lack of a rear wiper.

Tesla Model Y

Price: from $76,990

Tesla Model Y

Although financially less accessible, Tesla’s Model Y compares favorably to Kia’s EV6. The American model offers new features (third row of seats, for example), clever storage, greater towing capacity than the Kia, greater liveliness and an exclusive, efficient and fast charging network. On the other hand, at Tesla, the build quality is uneven, some controls are fragile and the price swells very quickly.
