Exasperated

I’m retired and owner of a 2011 BMW 323 with 178,000 km on the odometer, I keep my cars for a very long time. I get exasperated when I fill up and, for my grandsons’ sake, I’d like to get an electric car. I hesitate between the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Bolt. […] I do about 14,000 km per year and my trips rarely exceed 45 km. Which of these two vehicles would be my best choice?

Anne Marie L.

Of the two vehicles mentioned, the Chevrolet Bolt appears to be your best bet. That said, you might also consider two other vehicles in the same price range: the electric Mini Cooper and the Mazda MX-30. Both of these vehicles offer significantly less range than the models you’re considering, but taking into account the distance you’re traveling, you should still consider them. All these vehicles offer a comparable loading volume.

Volkswagen Golf R

I want to buy a Golf R within two years. Do you think that Volkswagen will market this model in the electric? I need all-wheel drive, considering where I live, but I might also consider a GTi if the R wasn’t offered in electric.

Francois C.

You will probably have to wait a little over two years before the release of an electric vehicle intended for performance at Volkswagen. The German manufacturer is currently leading other projects (ID.Buzz and ID.Aero). According to our sources, Volkswagen is continuing to develop a GTX version of its ID.3 electric sedan (not marketed in North America), also known by the code name ID.X. For now, we know that a working prototype exists, but the German manufacturer has not given the green light to its marketing.

Toyota RAV4 Premium

Currently owners of a 2019 Kia Niro PHEV, we are camping enthusiasts and have had an Aliner A-frame tent trailer since last summer. Unfortunately, the Kia prohibits towing with our vehicle despite its low weight of 2000 lbs. We are therefore looking for a new PHEV vehicle with a towing capacity of 2500 lbs. To stay within our budget, we only found the RAV4 Prime, and there’s a 24-month wait. Do you have any other suggestions?

Caroline L.

Unfortunately, there are no workarounds. No vehicle except the RAV4 Prime meets all of your criteria. And according to our information, the future Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Honda CR-V Hybrid will not be able to tow an equivalent load.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

I would like to know if it is possible to have a towbar installed. [hitch] for bike carriers on the Ioniq 5 2022 long-range rear-wheel-drive model. My dealer doesn’t seem to know.

Yves G.

Really ? However, Hyundai offers a series of accessories in this direction. Hitch package ($880.51) and bike rack (from $626.30).
