The Celtics are almost there

Again winner on the floor of Miami (93-80), Wednesday evening in game 5 of the Eastern Conference final, Boston leads (3-2) for the first time in the series and is only at a victory to return to the finals before Game 6 on Friday at TD Garden.

Fourteen years after its last title, won in 2008 at the expense of the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston has never seemed so close to being able to return to the NBA finals. The Celtics, 17 championship rings to their credit, are only one victory away from joining Golden State on the last step. Led 1-0 then 2-1 after Miami’s success at TD Garden, the Massachusetts franchise took the lead for the first time in this Eastern Conference final after its new success (93-80), Wednesday evening on the Heat floorwhere the C’s had already played a nasty trick on the finalists from two years ago in the Orlando bubble, in Game 2. A huge blow for Boston, who thus offered himself the possibility of validating his ticket for the finals on Friday during match 6, scheduled in addition to the second of the regular season. Celtics fans will once again be counting on their powerhouse tandem to secure that ticket to the team’s first Finals fourteen years after the 2008 victory over the Lakers.

Brown and Tatum still decisive

And for good reason, since Wednesday in Miami, Jaylen Brown (25 points, 4 rebounds) like the other “Jay” Jayson Tatum (22 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists) were still great. More decisive than anyone in this fifth meeting despite Tatum’s numerous shooting failures (7 out of 20), the duo scored 47 of Boston’s 93 points on Wednesday. Or more than half of the total of these Celtics who first suffered (42-37 at the break) against Bam Adebayo (18 points, 10 rebounds) and his teammates, before going into overdrive as soon as the restart followed in the wake of these two star players, much more skilful in the second half, and bend all suspense even before the start of the last quarter (32-16 in the third). One more little effort in front of their audience and Tatum, Brown or other Smart and Horford will be able to experience their first finals in a few days. They wouldn’t have stolen it.
