The President of the European Commission visits Canada

(OTTAWA) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began a short visit to Canada on Tuesday aimed at promoting transatlantic ties.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Ms.me von der Leyen at Canadian Forces Base Kingston to meet with members of the Canadian Armed Forces deployed in Poland to assist Ukrainian refugees.

In the afternoon, Mr. Trudeau and Ms.me von der Leyen will also participate in an event about collaborating on critical minerals in a net zero emissions economy during a visit to a clean technology company.

According to Trudeau’s office, they will discuss climate change, gender equity and ways to expand trade and investment.

In the evening, M.me von der Leyen will address the House of Commons to discuss Canada’s ties with Europe and mark International Women’s Day, which is held on Wednesday.

She is also due to meet Governor General Mary Simon on Wednesday morning.
