Reggie Fils-Aimé gives us clues about a possible return of F-Zero quite soon.

Fans of retro licenses will love this news. According to Reggie Fils-Aimé, the former president of Nintendo of America, some developers are working on an idea to bring games back to life F-Zero. It’s in an interview with VentureBeat that he explains that the franchise could soon return to the front of the stage.

“Why was F-Zero discontinued? The idea that I would share is that, at least during my mandate [en tant que président de Nintendo]the developers were always experimenting with different styles of play, always thinking about how a unique experience could be applied, either to an existing franchise or to the creation of a new franchise.

I bet somewhere in the development centers of Kyoto, a developer is having fun with an idea that could be applied to F-Zero. It’s never a situation, at least in my experience, where the company makes a conscious decision not to continue supporting this or that franchise. Historically it never worked that way, not when I was there.”

F-Zero on Nintendo Switch?

For those who don’t know F-Zero, it is a car racing game that was born in the 1990s. It is particularly recognized for its futuristic atmosphere, its hovering cars or its complex circuits. Acclaimed by audiences for its dynamism and innovative atmosphere, the franchise came to an abrupt halt in 2004 with the release of F-Zero Climax.

As you will have understood, this declaration applies to the deductible F-Zero as much as it can apply to any of Nintendo’s licenses that we haven’t heard from for several years. What surprises does the studio have in store for us? Only time will tell. Fans of the license can turn to F-Zero X which is available on Nintendo Switch via the online subscription add-on pack. It is part of the N64 games catalog, the next addition of which is a game Kirby.

For the moment, nothing has yet been officially shared by Nintendo, so this news remains at the stage of mere rumor, despite the seriousness of the source cited. If there is a revival, it could just as easily be done via a remaster or a remake, which we don’t know yet. It will therefore be necessary to be patient to have the heart net.
