Three assaults occurred in Montreal on Friday

Two people were injured by firearms on Friday evening and another was attacked with a knife, said the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). The three events took place in different areas of the metropolis.

The three people are in stable condition on Saturday morning, but have serious injuries, said Raphaël Bergeron, SPVM spokesperson.

Around 10:15 p.m., a 19-year-old young man was attacked in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve with a knife. The police found the victim injured in the upper body in his car in the parking lot of Place Versailles. However, the altercation reportedly took place at the intersection of rue Forbin-Janson and boulevard Lapointe. The man, who was not known to the police community, was taken to hospital, where his life is no longer in danger. The reason for the attack remains “nebulous”, indicates Mr. Bergeron.

About ten minutes later, a 35-year-old man was injured by a gun in the Saint-Léonard district. According to preliminary information, a suspect would have approached a vehicle parked at the corner of Jean-Talon and Candiac streets, and would have fired in the direction of a person who was inside. After a night in the hospital, the victim, known to the police community, is in stable condition. “She will have to undergo several surgeries over the next few hours and days to treat her injuries,” reports the SPVM spokesperson.

In Rivière-des-Prairies, another 19-year-old man was injured by several bullets, at the corner of Perras and Rodolphe-Forget boulevards. The victim was traveling on foot when one or more suspects in a vehicle fired at her, hitting her in the upper body. Transported to the hospital, the young man is still in serious but stable condition. Witnesses saw a dark-colored vehicle leaving the scene of the attack.

There are no suspects for these three events for the moment, indicated Raphaël Bergeron. The investigation is continuing and the police will try to shed light on the circumstances surrounding these assaults.
