Valve announces a new Portal game, but it’s not what you think

Valve, the studio behind the famous Portal games, unveils a new free-to-play set in this universe, but it’s not Portal 3.

After Portal and Portal 2fans of the franchise have been waiting years for the development of Portal 3, which still does not seem to interest Valve, the studio behind the franchise. But as fans began to lose hope, the studio finally announced a brand new game set in the Portal universe with a very short trailer, for a very short game too.

And no, it still ain’t Portal 3. It is actually a free game, named Aperture Desk Job, in which you play as an office worker, responsible for checking the proper functioning of objects that come out of the company, called Aperture Science. While it will be available for free on Steam from tuesday 1er MarchValve specifies that fans should not expect a game as exceptional as Portal.

Although set in the same universe, Valve explains that ” Aperture Desk Job reinvents the well-worn genre of walking simulators » and writes in bold letters that « It’s not Portal 3! “. It was unveiled on the occasion of the availability of the Steam Deck, the first deliveries of which are arriving worldwide today. As such, the studio declares that the keyboard / mouse is not supported, and that you will need a controller to play the title.

In reality, Aperture Desk Job even has a tutorial feature for those who aren’t used to playing with controllers, or just want to get familiar with the Steam Deck controls. That’s why the game is designed to be short, but effective. So he reminds us Astro’s Playroom on PS5, which also had the function of getting us used to the DualSense controls.
