One year after the release of the PS5, we review the games available on the platform and give you our ranking of the 5 best productions you can play to date. You will surely find a gift idea for Christmas there.
Released more than a year and a half ago, Sony’s PS5 is slowly starting to reach the homes of a large number of gamers around the world. At the latest news, the console has sold more than 19 million copies. If the PS5 continues to break sales records, so do the games offered on the console. The catalog keeps growing, and it’s time to take stock of the best games you’ll find on PS5 so far.
Note that in addition to these titles, there are many games that have or will soon have next-gen updates, increasing the visual qualities and performance of the games in question. This is particularly the case with The Witcher 3 or Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, which are particularly dense and well-made games that should be a pleasure to discover or rediscover on PS5.
5. Kena Bridge of Spirits
Kena Bridge of Spirits is a game that does not look like much at first glance, but which has seduced us thanks to its spiritual universe and its accessible gameplay. This is an action-adventure game in which you play as Kena, a young girl with very special powers whose goal is to accompany the souls of the dead to the afterlife.
With incredible finesse, Ember Lab was able to dose the ingredients between exploration, action and narration, and it worked. Kena’s universe is one of the finest we’ve seen this year, and it’s done with remarkable skill, especially for an indie game. It will suit all audiences, and it is to be consumed without moderation.
4. Horizon Forbidden West
Released at the beginning of the year, Horizon Forbidden West is the second installment in the franchise initiated by Sony in 2017. It follows the adventures of Aloy, a young outcast who has succeeded in saving humanity while the machines supposed to help humans started attacking them. Armed with her spear, her focus and her bow, this time she sets off in search of answers, which lead her to greater dangers… but also deeper mysteries.
With its open world, gripping story and relatively complete gameplay system, Horizon Forbidden West is the type of game that suits the greatest number, while in no way neglecting its quality of play. We also loved it for all that it represents, and for its technological prowess excellently highlighted by the PS5 .
3. Demon’s Souls Remake
Demon’s Souls Remake is a visual slap that has blown away all players who have tried the DualSense so far. The title is true to its image, capricious, demanding and sturdy, but also damn good! Acclaimed by general critics, the game was a resounding success with all the media and all the fans.
Often considered too difficult, Demons Souls is not accessible to everyone, all the more so for the universe which is not actually a general public. It nevertheless remains a nugget and one of the best achievements on PS5 to date. It’s a pity that the game does not exploit its functionalities a little more, and especially its controller. The big plus is that the game was available from the launch of the console on November 19, 2020.
2. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
Released on June 11 last year, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is one of the favorites of the editorial staff on PS5. It’s a complete game, suitable for both lifelong fans and today’s enthusiasts. Its strong narrative dimension as well as its characters have been worked to give players the impression that they themselves are part of the story.
The title exploits all the features of the PS5 and its rendering at the limit of cinematic production is impressive. Furthermore, Rift Apart has the quality of being a game accessible to the general public, including children, and incredibly immersive. To test without further delay!
It is undoubtedly the game of the year 2022 for many people. Elden Ring is the latest release from FromSoftware, the studio behind the Dark Souls. It therefore still sits in the category of more demanding games, although its open-world feel softens things up and makes it easier to approach combat through exploration and learning.
However, for all those who find the courage to step out of their comfort zone, you will not be disappointed as the universe of the game is rich. Visually, it’s a slap every moment, not becauseElden Ring is betting on photorealism, but because it stages sublime settings in their own way. Despite everything, we will understand if you decide to give up before having been able to finish it, we cannot please everyone!
And many others
Obviously, for more than a year and a half, Sony has been striving to offer its players a large library of games, which is growing day by day. There are therefore a lot of other incredible titles to discover, of which here is an exhaustive list (we only put some of the best, the top of the basket):
- death loop
- It Takes Two
- Gran Turismo 7
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Resident Evil Village
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
