Do you want to subscribe to PlayStation Plus but don’t know which plan to choose? Let us guide you.

Are you planning to receive a PlayStation console at Christmas, or planning to give one away? Then a PlayStation Plus subscription is a must, especially if you want to play online or enjoy a maximum of content at the best price. Since the redesign of its service, Sony has offered three different formulas that will suit players with different expectations. Here, we help you make your choice according to your needs. You can also access the comparison with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass right here.

PlayStation Plus Essential: the gamer’s starter pack

The PlayStation Plus Essential formula is essential for anyone who plays on PS4 or PS5. As its name suggests, it gives you access to most of the features of the subscription, namely 3 games offered per month and the online game function. Note that this is absolutely not necessary for free games such as Warzone or Fortnite.

Three free titles per month is just what those who never have time to play need. Sony always concocts a selection with small onions and it is not uncommon to see some games in high demand as is the case for this month of December. In addition, if you are on PS5, you can also take advantage of the PlayStation Plus collection, a small additional catalog of 19 games where God of War (2018), Days Goneor The Last Guardian, among other blockbusters.

The subscription is offered to you at the price of 8.99€ per month, 24.99€ per quarter or 59.99€ per year.

PlayStation Plus Extra: modernity above all

With the formula just above, video game enthusiasts will no longer have to search for what their next title will be. The PlayStation Plus Extra subscription gives you access to all the advantages listed above, in addition to a catalog of 400 different games, some of which are from illustrious franchises. Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Yakuzaor Ratchet & ClankThere is something for every taste.

Limited to PS4 and PS5 games, the catalog is not necessarily the most recent, given the fact that Sony does not add productions to it from the day of their release, but we are still entitled to many nuggets that are still relevant in 2022. It is therefore a subscription that will suit all players who already have a minimum of experience and who still find the time to play.

The Extra formula is available at the price of €13.99 per month, €39.99 per quarter or €99.99 per year.

PlayStation Plus Premium: retro, excluded and choice

If you have a lot of free time and/or video games occupy a large place in your day, the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription could be just right for you (see our full 3-month test). Retrogaming fans can have a great time, 300 retro games are available in the catalog in addition to the 400 modern games mentioned above. But that’s not all since it offers you a handful of exclusive playable demos, which will also delight the avant-garde.

Besides that, you have the possibility to play streaming on PC via the interface, which is not necessarily the most optimized but can be useful. As you will have understood, the Premium formula remains quite anecdotal if you are not a fan of retro games or even if you do not have your whole life ahead of you to take advantage of the entire catalog offered. In this case, it will be better to turn to the Extra formula, which remains the most interesting for most players.

But if you are ready to take the plunge for the Premium plan, know that it is available at a price of €16.99 per month, €49.99 per quarter or €119.99 per quarter. Note that per year, this subscription costs you less than the Monthly Extra formula, so it is still a good deal if you are willing to pay everything at once.
