(Ottawa) Wholesale sales rose 2.1% to $83.4 billion in October, boosted by gains in the miscellaneous goods, building materials and supplies, and personal and household goods subsectors , according to Statistics Canada.
The federal agency says sales have increased in six of the seven subsectors it analyzes.
Sales in the miscellaneous goods subsector jumped 5.5% to $13.0 billion in October, with most of the gain coming from the agricultural supplies industry.
Building materials and supplies rose 3.3% to $12.6 billion in October, due to higher sales of lumber, joinery, hardware and other building materials.
Meanwhile, the personal and household goods subsector grew 2.8% to $11.6 billion.
According to Statistics Canada, growth for overall sales in constant dollars was 0.9% in October.
