Get the Settings Right
Layer height, print speed, retraction, infill â every one of these settings changes how a print actually turns out. Here's how to set them with intent instead of guessing.
Pick a Setting to Dial In
Each guide covers what the setting actually controls, and where to start.

Layer Height
The single biggest lever for detail versus speed.

Print Speed
Where pushing speed starts costing you quality.

Retraction
Stop stringing without starving your extruder.
đŗ
Infill Patterns & Density
Balancing strength, weight, and print time.
đī¸
Supports
When you actually need them, and how to place them.

Before You Start Tweaking
1
Start from a verified profileMost slicers ship with a machine-specific profile that's already reasonably tuned. Use that as your baseline instead of building settings from scratch.
2
Change one setting at a timeAdjusting speed, cooling, and retraction all in the same test print makes it impossible to know what actually helped.
3
Keep a running logA simple note of what you changed and what happened saves hours the next time something goes wrong.
4
Know what a setting actually controlsRaising infill won't fix a stringing problem, and slowing print speed won't fix under-extrusion. Match the setting to the actual cause.
